Ever wanted to use your Push controller to do more than control Ableton? How about baking a cake, squeeze a lemon or do your washing? Well unfortunately, that’s just not possible, however, Ableton Certified Trainer, DJ, Producer and all-round good dude Mr Ed Rollo has mapped Native Instruments’ Traktor 2 for use with Push 2, so you can use it to DJ with – WIKY WIKY SAYY WHAAAT?? Tested on Traktor PRO 3.1.1 I could do more but with a controller this small and with limited buttons and knobs it will be very complicated to use. I have tested this map and use it myself but if any problem is found, feel free to message me to fix it.

Digital DJ Tips reader Chris W aka Spec4 writes: “I have a problem. I am torn between using Traktor and Ableton Live. I have Ms Pinky for Ableton Live but it’s overly complicated. I love the loops and loop controls of Traktor and the easy effects usage, but I value the warp in Ableton and the ability to launch clips. Do you think the FT3 by Faderfox would be a good controller option here option?”
Digital DJ Tips says:
The Faderfox Micromodul FT3 is a great bit of kit that as you’ve identified can work with both Traktor and Ableton, but so could practically all gear – it’s all Midi, after all. The hardware is not really the issue here – it’s what software you’re comfortable with.
If you want to use Ableton and Traktor, Serato has The Bridge for Serato Scratch Live, but it involves a full digital vinyl set-up. It is also possible to use sync Traktor and Ableton – Dubspot has a good tutorial on this. Also, Serato ITCH has “elastic beatgridding” for material with drifting tempos (as indeed does MixVibes Cross software), so if Traktor’s rather limited beatgridding is the only thing stopping you choosing it over Ableton, there are other no-Traktor options out there. Otherwise, Traktor has sample decks for something similar to launching clips in Ableton.
Looking forward, Traktor 2.5 is bringing in some of the features of Ableton (and the new Kontrol F1 controller duplicates some of the hardware functions of Ableton clip controllers). Exactly how much Ableton-style functionality will be ported over to Traktor in this upgrade remains to be seen, but it’s worth considering.
Have you found yourself torn between Ableton Live and more traditional DJ software? Do you use them both, and if so, how and with which combination of hardware? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

SoundSwitch, the software / hardware solution that syncs DMX lighting with DJ software, now supports Ableton Link. That means you can sync lighting effects and scenes to music when you’re performing with Link-enabled software like Traktor Pro 2, Ableton Live, and Mixvibes Remixlive. Ableton Link lets apps and devices “talk” to each other wirelessly, allowing them to stay in time with each other.
The addition of Ableton Link support opens up SoundSwitch to an entire universe of DJ/producer apps, though in a limited way. It doesn’t utilise the full power of the SoundSwitch custom lighting software – Link simply syncs SoundSwitch with the app’s tempo and you can trigger lighting scenes (called “Autoloop) and lighting effects manually while staying in time with what you’re spinning. Prior to the update, SoundSwitch only worked with two apps: Serato DJ Pro and Virtual DJ 8 and it has a more robust integration with them, including the ability to fully customise and automate lighting shows per song.
It’s an exciting development nonetheless, and it brings advanced lighting design capabilities into the hands of the DJ/producer and mobile DJ – more compelling (and fun!) than the usual “set and forget” sound activated mode of standalone lighting.
